Educational and Award Trips

Educational and Award trips are a meaningful part of the 4-H experience. Nothing can top the learning gained from actually being there and hearing, seeing and experiencing firsthand new places, new people and new procedures. Each trip relates to a specific project area or general leadership skills so you can continue to learn more in those areas. 

How do you qualify for a 4-H educational or Award Trip?

  1. You must be the minimum age/grade stated for the trip.
  2. Be enrolled in 4-H adn active in your club or project area.
  3. Complete the 4-H Educational and Award Trip Application.
  4. Be willing to share your expirence by submitting a write-up of your expirence to the 4-H office.
  5. Any youth can attend any trip, even if not awarded or scholarship recieved, at the approval of the 4-H staff. 

Trip winners will:

  1. Receive the details about the trip as soon as possible in advance of the scheduled date.
  2. Scholarships for the cost of the trip may or may not be available. Please be aware of the cost of the trip.
  3. Find their own transportation to and from the event and work with the 4-H office to identify a chaperone.

Available Trips:  

  • 4-H CAREER EXPLORATION - Cornell University - University U is for grades 8-9 and Focus programs are for grades 10-12. 4-Her's from all over New York State attend 3 days of workshops, tour the college campus, and meet new friends. You may select from a variety of subject areas in either program. Approximate cost: $200 plus spending money. (Wayne County 4-H Scholarship(s) are available) 
  • 4-H SUPERVISOR FOR A DAY Lyons- This trip is for grades 8+. One 4-Her is selected from each township to spend a day with their supervisor finding out how the county government operates and represent the Wayne County 4-H Program. If there are not enough applications for each township the 4-H staff will make the final selections. You may miss one day of school for this trip. No cost. 
  • CAPITAL DAYS - Albany- This 2-day trip is for grade 10+. Learn about the process of state government. Visit both houses of the legislature and have breakfast with legislators from your district. You will miss two days of school for this trip. Approximate cost: $250 plus Sunday night hotel and spending money. (Limit 2 attendees) (Wayne County 4-H Scholarship(s) are available)
  • STATE TEEN ACTION REPS RETREAT (STARR) - Syracuse- The State Teen Action Reps Retreat (STARR) is a three-day, fun-filled event where 4-H teens participate in a vareity of workshops and activites meant to challenge, excite, and further develop life skills. The event is planned by teens and adults serving on the youth/adult STARR planning commitee. Ages 13+. Approximate cost: $90 You will not miss school for this trip. (Wayne County 4-H Scholarship(s) are available)
  • AGRI-BUSINESS CAREER CONFERENCE (ABC) - Cobleskill- This 2-day trip is for grades 10-11. This is an excellent 2 day program at SUNY Cobleskill with many tours of agriculture businesses and speakers. Co-sponsored by the NYS Farm Bureau. You will miss 2 days of school for this trip. Approximate cost: $120 plus Sunday night hotel and spending money. (Wayne County 4-H Scholarship(s) are available)
