Free Webinar: Working with today's farm labor

  • Friday, September 20, 2024, 12:00 PM - 12:00 PM

On January 1, 2020, New York State legalized union organizing for farm workers, when the Farm Laborers Fair Labor Practices Act (FLFLPA) took effect. The FLFLPA established rules about what farm employers can and cannot say to workers when talking about unionizing. These rules pose challenges and risks for farm employers who don't understand and follow them. This webinar will teach employers how to manage these risks when talking to their workers about unions.

This webinar addresses several topics, including:

  • What you can't say to workers about unionizing: Avoiding threats, interrogation, promises, and surveillance
  • What you can say to workers about unionizing: Using facts, opinions, and experiences to make your case
  • Unfair Labor Practices: The legal implications
  • Farm Employer Q&A: Get answers to your questions

Presenters include Dr. Bonnie Nelsen, Business Specialist at Cornell's Lake Ontario Fruit Program; Dr. Richard Stup, Director of Cornell's Agricultural Workforce Development Center; and attorney Joshua Viau, Co-regional Managing Partner at Fisher Phillips law firm.

Please note registration is required for this free webinar. Upon registering you will receive a registration confirmation email that will include 2 links.
