It’s time to register for this year’s B.E.V. NY conference! We will be returning to the Hotel Canandaigua for this year’s meeting.

Our Finger Lakes Grape team has put together a program that will address a number of current issues facing the industry, covering a range of business, enology and viticulture topics. Day 1 of the conference has been designed to focus on nuts and bolts (or “trellis and tanks”) issues for the industry. The first day will open with a discussion about two important economic issues for those who grow the grapes that make the wines and juice. Andrew Holden, farm business extension specialist with the Lake Erie Regional Grape Program, and Hans Walter-Peterson, viticulture extension specialist with the Finger Lakes Grape Program, will present information about the current costs to grow grapes in the two regions, followed by an encore from Andrew on how and when growers should think about removing a vineyard block from production.

The program will then split into enology and viticulture tracks for the rest of the day. The enology sessions will include talks about wine taints from Gavin Sacks and Patrick Gibney, and the sensory effects of alcohol from Anna Katharine Mansfield. The viticulture sessions will focus on important sustainability issues for vineyards, our newest invasive pest Spotted Lanternfly, and the increasingly important topic of fungicide resistance. The two afternoon viticulture sessions have been approved by the DEC for 3.0 pesticide recertification credits. And when all of that is done, everyone is invited to join the wine reception for a little relaxation and social time with friends and colleagues.

On the second day of the conference, the program will look at some bigger picture issues for the industry. The one that has almost everyone across the industry talking, both nationally and locally, is the recent slowdown in sales of wine and most other alcoholic beverages. A range of speakers will talk about the current state of the market on both a national scale, and a more local one. One of the trends that is driving those changes in the beverage market is the growing interest of consumers in low and no alcohol wines, and we will have a panel of industry members to talk on this new product category. The day will finish off with a look back at the 2024 season from each of the major growing regions of the state and what lessons that might be learned from it.

As always, this event wouldn’t be possible without the participation and support of our Trade Show exhibitors and sponsors. We have made a few changes to the trade show to accommodate the space at the hotel while still giving vendors and attendees plenty of opportunity to interact with one another. There are still a few booth spaces left if you or somebody you know would like to be part of B.E.V. NY’s trade show this year. Information on exhibitor and sponsorship opportunities can be found at https://www.bevny.org/sponsors.

Early bird registration rates are available until Friday, February 14. Members of the NY Wine & Grape Foundation may receive $125 off with offer code at checkout. Contact Jennifer Cooper for details or to check your membership status. These discounts are limited so be sure to act fast if you’re a member.
