The Wayne County Cornell Cooperative Extension provides a new program through SNAP-Ed New York that is a fast way to receive tips, tricks, and ideas to save time, money, and hassle. If you choose to opt-in, the new SNAP-Ed Texting Program sends one to two texts to your phone every week about ways to be healthy and active. The texts received from the program include activities you can do with your families, your community, and yourself. This can consist of grocery stores, healthy meals, and physical activity ideas.
This program offers a non-conventional way to educate our communities quickly and easily, which adds no inconvenience to the person receiving the texts. Other counties that have researched the benefits of the texting program saw an increase in physical activity and fruit and vegetable intake and a decrease in money spent at the grocery store.
If you wish to receive texts from SNAP-Ed New York on what you can do to better your lifestyle and those around you, text SNAPEdNY to 89860. The texting program is offered in English and Spanish. Any further questions, please feel free to contact Sandi Bastedo at sb932@cornell.edu.
